Alternative sentencing derives from the concept of restorative justice.

The community offers the means and opportunities to restore the offender as a responsible and productive member of society. The community also holds the offender accountable for his offense and offers ways for him to restore the peace by contributing his time and talents to benefit the public good.

OAR offers alternatives to sanctioned incarceration. These include community service and instructional programs.

Adult and juvenile offenders may be ordered by the court to perform community service as part of a sanction, or required to attend an instructional program in which they learn the fundamentals of law and order in our society.
