The Reentry Services Department team provides professional reentry services to incarcerated individual and ex-offenders of Arlington County and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church.
OAR reentry advisors assist ex-offenders who are dedicated to avoiding re-incarceration and becoming established in the community as responsible and productive citizens.
Reentry Services Department for Ex-Offenders
OAR reentry advisors assist men and women through major life transitions directly or indirectly related to the individual’s criminal justice status or history. Participation is completely voluntary and cannot be court ordered. Services include:

Transitional needs such as emergency shelter, transportation, clothing, food, identification, medication, mental health or medical care, and a wide range of social service referrals. |

Identification assistance for obtaining duplicate or replacement identification cards and required secondary documents. |

Employment counseling services including professional resumes, detailed work histories, vocational skills assessment, interview skills, and planned job searches. |

Financial assistance in the form of transportation resources, identification fees, basic clothing and individualized needs. |
 |
Fundraising for specific client needs such as rental assistance, work uniforms, tools, job training, and transportation home from jail to any location in the continental United States. |
 |
A “whatever it takes” approach whose goals include problem solving, reunification with families, job retention, and ultimately self-sufficiency. |

Ex-offender services assist individuals and families in reentry. Your reentry may consist of one or more of the following:

Who is Eligible for Ex-Offender Services?
 |
You are eligible if you were convicted of a crime at any time in your past, or have a criminal charge pending before the Court, even if the difficulties you currently face are unrelated to the conviction or pending charges. |

Ex-offender services are primarily for residents of Arlington County and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church. |

 |
If you are a graduate of certain OAR educational programs, you may be eligible for ex-offender services regardless of residency. |
 |
Non-residents may be eligible for transportation home from jail and for referrals to agencies and programs in their home communities. |

What are My Responsibilities as an Reentry Services Department Client?
These services are intended to assist ex-offenders who are striving to avoid re-incarceration. You are expected to be honest, cooperative, and active in your reentry. Your reentry advisor will help you prioritize goals, access needed services, and offer a variety of referrals, options and alternatives. You must make it to your appointments, be consistent, work hard to find a job, and conscientiously follow through on tasks. Above all you are expected to make progress toward your stated objectives.
