Like the homeless, the chronically mentally ill, and the drug addicted, those jailed for criminal offenses are members of our community, and they need our help.
Many incarcerated individuals were already at risk prior to their arrests. They often find that incarceration offers a moment of stability and self-reflection. Many are seeking the skills, recovery assistance and support needed to turn their lives around.
Volunteering with OAR provides a wonderful opportunity to touch the lives of those most in need and dramatically benefit the community. Volunteers can help in a wide variety of ways: assisting with education, recovery support and enhanced life skills training.
All of these tasks will help break the costly cycle of recidivism and restore the lives of these individuals toward positive and productive goals. As an OAR volunteer, you will be a beacon of hope on a 30-year mission of restorative justice.
