Katy Steinbruck, Collective Member of 25 years and Deputy Director (she/her, hers)
Katy Steinbruck is the daughter of John Frederick Steinbruck and Erna Clara Gunther Steinbruck. She was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, where she continues to live today. Katy has been an integral member of the OAR of Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church Collective for more than 25 years, serving in many leadership roles since joining the team in 2000.
She currently serves as Deputy Director, guiding OAR’s evidence-based programming, overseeing development and outreach, and fostering partnerships with community agencies. Katy has also served as Director of Programs, Director of Reentry, and Director of Volunteer Services, where she built strong teams and developed innovative programs for individuals returning home from incarceration. Beyond OAR, Katy launched Sage Flowers, a social enterprise that provided both community service and meaningful employment opportunities for people reentering society.
Katy earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. She also holds a post-baccalaureate certificate in Substance Use Disorder Counseling. Over the years, she has completed extensive training in evidence-based practices, including Motivational Interviewing, Moral Reconation Therapy, Thinking for a Change, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and trauma-informed care. She is a graduate of Leadership Arlington’s Signature Program and, for many years, served as co-chair of both the Arlington County and the City of Alexandria Reentry Councils.
Known for her steady leadership, compassion, and commitment to justice, Katy has devoted her career to ensuring that individuals impacted by the criminal legal system are met with dignity, support, and opportunity.
