One of the many ways that OAR assists our local community is by providing volunteers at local non-profit organizations and community events. OAR supervises the Community Service function for the Arlington and Falls Church Courts. Anyone who is court mandated to complete community service hours through Arlington or Falls Church Courts must have their service supervised by OAR. Through this program, OAR is able to provide over 4,000 hours of service back to the local community, valued at over $530,000 annually.

OAR Community Service staff members work diligently to ensure that volunteers completing community service are appropriately matched at a nonprofit site and are completing their hours in a timely manner. Case Managers communicate directly with the placement sites, attorneys, Probation Officers, and the courts on a regular basis to ensure the court requirements are being met.

Thus far in October, OAR community service volunteers have assisted at the following local events: Arlington County Housing Fair, Latinoamerican Festival, Falls Church Farm Day, and St. Charles Oktoberfest. In September, 897 hours were contributed at community events alone! This is beneficial both to the community and to the volunteers who are giving back to the community they have harmed in some way.

If you know of a nonprofit site in the metro DC area that could benefit from community service volunteers, please contact the Director of Community Service and Special Projects, Heather Pritchett, at 703-228-7435.
